DEADPOOL 2 Director David Leitch To Direct THE DIVISION with Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal
Deadpool 2 and John Wick director David Leitch has been lining up the film projects! It was just announced that he would be directing the Fast and Furious spinoff film with Hobbs and Shaw. Now it has been announced that he will direct the big screen adaptation of Ubisoft's hit video game The Division!
According to Variety, he will actually shoot The Division before he shoots the Hobbs and Shaw film. Apparently, the film is already set to go into production this fall, with the goal to release it sometime in 2019. Stephen Gaghan was originally attached to direct the film, but things obviously didn't work out.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain have been set to star in the film project since its conception and they have been "persistent in making sure that it matches the tone of the video game, while also reaching audiences who appreciate the actors’ own past work."
The story for The Division is set in the wake of a devastating pandemic that sweeps through New York City, basic services fail one by one, and without access to food or water, the city quickly descends into chaos. Chastain is a talented actress and this seems like it could be a fun project for her. There are no details on the character that she will be playing, but I'm sure we'll learn more if she ends up being officially cast.
Gyllenhaal will play an agent working with the Strategic Homeland Division tasked with helping to rebuild the Division’s operations in Manhattan, investigating the nature of the outbreak, and combating criminal activity in its wake.
This is another great film project for David Leitch to direct. Are you excited to hear that Leitch has jumped on board to direct the movie?
