DEADPOOL 2 Director Says It's Possible for a Sequel to Find "Happy Ground" Between R and PG-13 Rating

We still don’t know what Marvel Studios plans are for a new Deadpool sequel. We know that both Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Disney CEO Bob Iger have said that an R-rated Deadpool film is not out of the question. They seem to be ok with R-rated Marvel films, but we have yet to see them pull the trigger on one.

Fans are still wondering if they will actually make an R-rated Deadpool movie, but if they don’t, Deadpool 2 director David Leitch thinks a new sequel can find a "happy ground" between the R and PG-13 movie ratings. While talking to Yahoo, he said:

“It's rated R so that's not necessarily the [MCU] brand but he doesn't necessarily need to be R and [Disney] don't necessarily need to only make PG-13 movies. I think we'll find a happy ground.”

I imagine that Leitch and Ryan Reynolds have already been having these discussions with Marvel. They’d have to be! While fans do enjoy the R-rated style and personality of Deadpool, it is possible to still make a great Deadpool film that isn’t a hard R. It all comes down to the story if elevating the film to an R-rating strengthens the story, then they better go for it! Leitch went on to say:

“There's a lot of mystery still surrounding what they want to do with Deadpool in [Disney’s] Marvel world but I think, from discussions that I've heard, it's all positive. I think that they're just trying to figure a way in as Deadpool's hard.”

Leitch would love to be involved with the third Deadpool film, and he has already said that he would do it if he was asked. I just hope we don’t have to wait too long before we see another Deadpool flick! Reynolds previously teased that it could happen in Marvel’s Phase 5, so it could definitely happen within the next five years.

What do you think about Leitch’s thoughts on handling a Deadpool sequel under the Disney banner?
