DEADPOOL Director Tim Miller Replaces Eli Roth on BORDERLANDS Movie Reshoots
The highly anticipated feature film adaptation of Borderlands is confirmed to be going through some additional reshoots. As you know, that’s not really unusual for a big-budget tentpole movie like this. The movie will go through two weeks of reshoots, but what’s interesting about these reshoots is that they will not be directed by Eli Roth. Deadpool director Tim Miller is replacing Roth and will helm those reshoots.
Deadline explains that the reason for this is that Roth reportedly couldn’t fit the time into his schedule, because he’s making a horror movie titled Thanksgiving, which is based on his fake trailer in Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse film. So, Roth wasn’t fired, he’s just got other things to do like his Thanksgiving horror film, which should be interesting.
The story for Borderlands follows Lilith, an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past. She reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora and forms an unexpected alliance to find the missing daughter of Atlas. The film stars Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis, Kevin Hart as Roland, Jack Black's character Clatrap, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, and Florian Munteanu as Krieg. They are joined by Gina Gershon as Moxxi, Edgar Ramirez, Janina Gavankar, Cheyenne Jackson, Charles Babalola, Benjamin Byron Davis, Steven Boyer, Ryann Redmond, and Haley Bennett.
Here’s the synopsis that was released for the film:
Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas (Ramirez). Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team – Roland (Hart), a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Curtis), the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap (Black), a persistently wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other."
Avi and Ari Arad are producing through Arad Prods, and the film is being written by Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin. Borderlands will be released in theaters sometime in 2023. Watch our reaction video for the footage we saw of the movie here.
