DEADPOOL Will Be the Only Iteration of Fox's X-Men That Will Carry Over to Marvel and Disney
Now that the deal between Disney and Fox is done, Marvel Studios can do whatever they want with the X-Men and Fantastic Four properties! This is what the fans are most excited about.
There are a lot of new mutant characters that Marvel will be able to play with now and it was safe to assume that they would be starting from scratch with many of them. Well, according to THR, Ryan Reynolds’ iteration of Deadpool is expected to be the only character of the current X-Men characters developed by Fox that will stay the same as it makes the jump to Disney, so that’s good! That’s what many of us were hoping for!
As you might expect, there are going to be some complications behind-the-scenes as there are several producer deals that need to be looked at and figured out. For example, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg have been attached to the X-Men franchise for years. There’s a chance that they could end up being bought out, and they may also have deals in place that will see them get executive producer credits on all future X-Men movies regardless of whether or not they're involved with them.
The report also says that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has "met with several members of the X-Men old guard in recent months." They also note that "Unless Feige has a completed script waiting in his desk drawer, any of the newly-arrived heroes are unlikely to hit screens at least until 2021 if not later."
As for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, that movie is still going to get released in theaters. Then there’s the troubled film The New Mutants, and a decision on that won’t be made until after the execs at Marvel and Disney see it. This is one of those projects that is likely to end up on Disney+ or Hulu, which is a shame. I was really excited about that one.
While Marvel and Disney have their work cut out for them in organizing things, the dust will eventually settle, and they will be moving full steam ahead on future projects.
