DEAR EVAN HANSEN Recruits Broadway Alumnus DeMarius Copes

Universal has been announcing a lot of cast members for the upcoming Dear Evan Hansen musical movie. The latest to join the roster is DeMarius Copes, who was a member of the original Broadway cast of Mean Girls. Copes’ feature debut will be as Oliver, one of the friends of Zoey Murphy, who will be played by Kaitlyn Dever. In case you’re not familiar with the popular musical, here’s a synopsis:

The story follows Evan Hansen, a high schooler with social anxiety. He unintentionally gets caught up in a lie after the family of a classmate who died by suicide mistakes one of Hansen’s letters for their son’s suicide note.

The original musical was created by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul with the film being directed by Stephen Chbosky. Other members of the cast include Julianne Moore, Ben Platt, Amy Adams, Amandla Stenberg, Danny Pino, Nik Dodani, and Colton Ryan.

I’ve heard great things about Dear Evan Hansen and will be interested to see if the film is any good.
