Deep Learning A.I. Was Used to Insert Harrison Ford into SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY

When fans learned that a new younger actor was going to be cast in the role of Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story, there were a lot of moans and groans from the fans. I was one of them! I didn’t want to see another actor to play Han Solo! But, Alden Ehrenreich ended up landing the part and he did an awesome job! I really thought he was great as Han!

For those of you curious to see what the film might have looked like with a young Harrison Ford in the role, the YouTube channel derpfakes has a video that you’ve gotta check out. It’s a little weird to watch and it’s kinda creepy, but at the same time it’s pretty cool

The YouTube channel uses deep learning artificial intelligence that analyzes a large collection of photos of a given person, then creates a database of those images in multiple positions and poses. The technology then uses that database to intelligently perform an automatic face replacement on a source clip. The creator of the video says:

“Using footage and stills of a pre 1977 Harrison Ford, I tried to make the most convincing young Solo I could, with the peak (in my opinion) being the final scene.”

The results of the video are… well, take a look for yourself and tell us what you think!

The original Han Solo, Harrison Ford, replaces Alden Ehrenreich in the latest movie in the franchise - Solo: A Star Wars Story. Using footage and stills of a pre 1977 Harrison Ford, I tried to make the most convincing young Solo I could, with the peak (in my opinion) being the final scene.
