Del Rey to Revive Classic STAR WARS Novels to Celebrate 50 Years of Lucasfilm

The Star Wars fandom has been around since the 70s and ever since the first movie, has spawned new movies, books, television series, games, and more. Fans came to love what was called the Expanded Universe. When Disney bought Star Wars though, they ended up making the Expanded Universe non-canonical and dubbed them Star Wars Legends. This angered a lot of fans. Well, a new announcement won’t make up for this, but it should extend some good will to fans.

Del Rey recently announced that they plan to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Lucasfilm by releasing a curated collection of beloved Star Wars novels, including those from the Expanded Universe. The first collection dubbed the Essential Legends Collection will feature new trade paperback editions of three novels: Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn, Darth Bane: Path of Destruction by Drew Karpyshyn, and Shatterpoint by Matthew Stover. The new editions will even feature new, original artwork for each book. Tracie Ching, Simon Goinard, and Jeff Manning will provide the art for each book respectively.

In addition, Shatterpoint is getting a new unabridged audiobook narrated by Sullivan Jones. You’ll be able to purchase the new collection on June 15. More titles will be added to the Essential Legends Collection in the future with the next additions coming this Fall.
