Delightful Trailer for Judy Blume's ARE YOU THERE GOD? IT'S ME, MARGARET
Lionsgate has released the first trailer for the feature film adaptation of Judy Blume’s beloved young adult classic Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, and it looks like a fantastic and delightful movie! It definitely put a smile on my face.
The movie stars Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, and Benny Safdie alongside newcomer Abby Ryder Fortson, who plays 11-year-old Margaret. The movie is set in the 1970s, and Margaret is uprooted from her New York City home where she’s close to her grandmother, Sylvia (Bates), and moves to the New Jersey suburbs with her parents, who are played by McAdams and Safdie.
The movie was written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig (Edge of Seventeen). Here’s the synopsis for the film:
For over fifty years, Judy Blume’s classic and groundbreaking novel Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. has impacted generations with its timeless coming-of-age story, insightful humor, and candid exploration of life’s biggest questions. In Lionsgate’s big-screen adaptation, 11-year-old Margaret (Fortson) is uprooted from her life in New York City for the suburbs of New Jersey, going through the messy and tumultuous throes of puberty with new friends in a new school. She relies on her mother, Barbara (Rachel McAdams), who is also struggling to adjust to life outside the big city, and her adoring grandmother, Sylvia (Kathy Bates), who isn’t happy they moved away and likes to remind them every chance she gets.
Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret is produced by Gracie Films’ James L. Brooks, Blume, Craig, Julie Ansell, Richard Sakai, Amy Lorraine Brooks and Aldric La’auli Porter, with Jonathan McCoy executive producing. The movie is set to hit theaters on April 28th, 2023.
