The first film in a brand-new trilogy adapting Koyoharu Gotoge’s Infinity Castle arc kicked off in Japan earlier this summer and shattered records almost immediately. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has officially crossed $555 million USD worldwide, with $451 million internationally and $104 million domestically.
Over the past weekend alone, it pulled in another $36 million, cementing its spot at the top. Not only is it the highest-grossing anime film ever, but it also managed to dethrone the previous record holder, its own predecessor, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train.
To give some perspective, Infinity Castle now sits at the very top with $555 million, followed by Mugen Train with $506 million, and Makoto Shinkai’s Your Name in third place with $405 million.
The movie is still in the middle of its theatrical run, so this record-breaking total is only going to climb higher. The most exciting part? This is just the beginning, with two more films still on the way to wrap up the trilogy.
That success comes with some new challenges. The next installments will face major pressure to live up to these staggering numbers, and while Demon Slayer is the hottest property in anime right now, interest could shift by the time the final film arrives.
