Denis Villeneuve Gave a Dying Fan The Opportunity To Watch DUNE: PART TWO Before It Premiered
Director Denis Villeneuve gave a dying fan the opportunity to watch Dune: Part Two before he passed away. The Washington Post talked to L'Avant, which is a Canadian charity, and their founder Josée Gagnon. They reached out to Villeneuve, the director who heard the man’s situation in a Facebook post.
The filmmaker was moved by the man’s story and he had an assistant send over the laptop quickly so he could watch the movie. The saddest part about this is that the man, who was not named, passed away before he could finish the entire film. He only managed to make it half way through.
Gagnon, who was not allowed to share this story until after the movie was released, said: "I said: 'You don't understand, it's extraordinary what this man went through. The ending of a film, when you're going to die, it doesn't mean anything. … All this existed for him.’"
She went on to say, that not seeing the ending "didn't matter" and shared that the individual had a "very difficult start to life." Seeing people rally around his last wish was more than enough for the man. Gagnon would write that this message was "worth all the gold in the world."
This is one of those heartfelt stories that gives you faith in humanity. It proves that people step up to help in hard situations to help someone in need.
