Denis Villeneuve Offers Update on DUNE: PART TWO Says Script is Mostly Finished and They Are Planning More IMAX Shots
Denis Villeneuve is prepping to shoot Dune: Part Two, which is going to be even bigger and more epic than the first movie. When previously talking about the sequel, Villeneuve previously teased that this next movie is going to the “main meal.” The director previously shared that Dune: Part One is just “an appetizer for the second part still to come.”
During a recent interview with Collider, Villeneuve offered an update on the sequel, saying that they’re going to utilize IMAX again, and this time they are going to go even bigger as they are planning to use the format more in this film than the last one. The director said: “Greig Fraser and I, we fell in love with this format, and definitely there will be — even probably more — IMAX footage in this movie. Definitely.”
As for the script, the filmmaker says that it’s “finished mostly, but it’s always a work in progress.” He added: “It’ll be a work in progress until final cut, but I will say it’s solidified. I have a script in my hands. We are in prep right now. My crew, we are in full prep for the movie.”
Villeneuve went on to talk about working on the sequel during the busy awards season, saying: “With the awards seasons, it’s tricky. My brain is like, it’s like two parts of my brain that don’t connect together…And I’m not complaining.”
Dune: Part Two will bring back Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya and Javier Bardem. Then we have Florence Pugh, who is in final negotiations to play Princess Irulan, and Elvis actor Austin Butler, who is in talks to play Baron Vladimir Harkonnen’s sadistic nephew and heir, Feyd-Rautha.
Production on the film is expected to start in the fall, with the film set to be released on October 20, 2023.
