Denis Villeneuve's DUNE Pushed Back to October 2021
I’ve got some discouraging news to share with you regarding the release of Denis Villeneuve’s highly-anticipated film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune. The release of the film has been moved from December 18th, 2020 to October 1st, 2021.
Yeah, we’re gonna have to wait a long time before we finally get to see this movie in theaters… if theaters even survive! Studios keep pushing these movies back, so the movie theaters that are open aren’t making enough money to stay in business!
I’m super bummed out about this news. Dune was the one movie that I was incredibly excited about and hopeful to see in theaters this year. Now those hopes have been dashed.
Here’s the synopsis for the film:
A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
The film’s cast includes Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Zendaya as Chani, Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Harkonnen, Javier Bardem as tribe leader Stilgar, Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam, David Dastmcalchian as Piter De Vries, Chang Chen as Dr. Yueh, Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Liet-Kynes, and Dave Bautista as the Baron’s nephew Rabban.
