Dennis Quaid to Star in YELLOWSTONE Spinoff Series BASS REEVES
Dennis Quaid (Innerspace, The Day After Tomorrow) has joined the cast of Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ series Bass Reeves, which is another Yellowstone spinoff series that is set prior to the events of 1883.
Quaid joins David Oyelowo, who is portraying the title character, a legendary Wild West lawman. Quaid will play Sherrill Lynn, a Deputy U.S. Marshall. He is the first cast member aside from Oyelowo to be officially confirmed for the series.
The official description reads: “Reeves was known as the greatest frontier hero in American history and also believed to be the inspiration for ‘The Lone Ranger.’ He worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded.”
Oyelowo previously talked about the series explaining that it “charts Reeves’ life from when he was born into enslavement. After the Civil War he escaped his captivity, as Oyelowo explained it, to live in the Indian Territories where he learned the languages and tracking skills that he used when tasked as a deputy marshal to police the territories, which were incredibly lawless.”
He added: ”The mortality rate of being a deputy marshal back then was so high that the fact that he had 3,000 arrests — and a career that spanned into his 60s — these were things that were just unthinkable. For me, it’s definitely a big deal. Especially since twice I went out with it and the entire industry said no to the idea of the story being told.”
Taylor Sheridan executive produces along with Chad Feehan, David C. Glasser, Oyelowo, Jessica Oyelowo, David Permut, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari and David Hutkin.
The series is currently filming in Texas. Are you looking forward to the tale of Bass Reeves?
