Denny's Promo For SOLO Takes Us To The STAR WARS Underworld and Features Lots of Shady Characters
Denny's is teaming up with Lucasfilm for a Solo: A Star Wars Story cross-promotion campaign. They released a promo spot that features kid versions of Han Solo and Lando Calrissian playing a game of sabacc in the deep underworld of the Star Wars universe. The promo also features Chewbacca and is filled all kinds of strange new alien characters.
There is a movie-inspired menu and trading card packs that can be purchased as well. Those trading cards, which I included below the promo video, introduce some new characters who will be in the film. They include a character with the hilariously awesome name of Therm Scissorpunch! Proceeds from the trading card packs will benefit the charity, No Kid Hungry.
It looks like this was a fun cross-promotional opportunity for everyone involved. The video came with the following description:
Directed by Ron Howard, the highly anticipated new film traces the origins of the Han Solo character from the Star Wars universe, with Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) filling the shoes of Harrison Ford as a younger iteration of the icon. Solo aims to fill in the backstory of the titular scoundrel, revealing how Han first came across Chewie, how he won the Millennium Falcon, and the origins of his relationship with Lando Calrissian, played in this film by Donald Glover. Indeed, this Denny’s commercial riffs on the Han/Lando relationship and appears to be recreating a scene from Solo that we’ve glimpsed briefly in the trailers—a gamble between Han and Lando that may or may not feature the Falcon as the stakes.
Solo: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on May 25th and also stars Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Paul Bettany, and Joonas Suotamo.
