DESTINY 2: SEASON OF DAWN Reveal Overview

The reveal is here, and the livestream was shown for the Season of Dawn in Destiny 2. We’re going to break down just about everything mentioned/shown in the live stream right now.

The Return of a Legend

Bungie stated and has said before that they will be trying to make a story that is continuing and progressing season over season. In this past season, we fought off the Vex and killed the Undying Mind in all of its timelines. Now, we have altered history in various ways and we must bring Saint-14 back and fix the timeline as the Cabal try to rewrite history and their loss of the Red War.

The Sundial

Osiris and his intense need to intervene with the timeline has brought us The Sundial. This is a new six-person activity that pits players against enemies from the past, present, and future by passing through “time-walls” created by the Sundial. It seems to be set up more like the Menagerie with various encounters and a boss that will be rotated out weekly. Champion enemies will be in the midst of these battles, so using the correct weaponry and a powered up artifact will be key when facing these enemies, especially in the hard mode (which is not match made).

The Sundial looks like a fun and challenging activity with a wide variety of strategies and enemies like the Menagerie. We also see various mechanics like a timer, Cabal sky lasers that we can use on enemies and other things not yet revealed. The loot pool has not been shown yet or exactly how we will obtain gear, but the gear looks great and more specifically grindable like the Menagerie, Forges or Lectern.

A Light In The Forest

One of the biggest things talked about today was the new artifact for the season, the Lantern of Osiris. The additional power seems to be fairly similar to the Season of the Undying’s artifact which was perfectly fine. The new mods for the Lantern of Osiris also look great, and honestly better than before. We see things like various enhanced modifiers for a cheaper cost, champion based mods in the first section for players to access quickly and much more advanced/diverse mods like producing healing orbs on precision kills with certain weapons. I think that as Destiny 2 becomes more complex and diverse, the experience as a whole will be better, and this is a good sign of that coming to fruition.

A New Way To Kill

Along with the new mode, new story and new artifact, this will all lead to a new way to play. The Solar classes are all getting changes and they are the new focus elemental type for the artifact, along with Void being the sub element. The artifact will be also focusing on long range weapons like Scout Rifles, Snipers and Linear Fusions and this will encourage players to use a variety of long range weaponry for the season. Also, in the new mods, there is a new mechanic called charged light, which can be acquired with certain mods from finishers or certain kill types and then can grant bonuses to damage, resistance and other things that we don’t know about yet. So no matter what, we can expect a lot of meta changes and different load outs this season to spice things up.

This was basically the whole show! We also saw that multiple finishers can be “favorited” and then randomly used when performing a finisher, sparrows can be used on Mercury, Dawning starting the 17th and Crimson Days on February 11th and other things. Let us know what you’re excited for and if you’re looking forward to going to the past, present or future the most to finish that Red army off.
