Detailed Look at That Device From The End of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR
If you've seen Avengers: Infinity War already, when I say device I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about. It's a little thing that appears during the post-credits scene for the film. If you haven't seen the movie yet, you know the drill...
During the post-credits scene of the film, Nick Fury and Maria Hill witness the start of chaos in New York City after Thanos collects the Infinity Stones and snaps his fingers. After Fury watches Hill turn into ash, he finds himself fading away as well. But, before he does, he grabs a little device from the backseat of his SUV and pushes the button before he dies in hopes that the message gets to where it's meant to go... Captain Marvel. He's calling in the cavalry!
Thanks to Art of VFX, you can get a closer look at the device below. What I love about it is that this is a 90s pager that has been retrofitted to send super long distant messages into deep space.
One thing that we learn about the creation of this space beeper from VFX supervisor Oliver Schulz, is that it was completely CGI. I thought it was a practical prop, but nope! If you're into VFX work, you'll want to read the whole interview with Schultz.
