Details for the JURASSIC WORLD: BATTLE AT BIG ROCK Short Film Revealed by Director Colin Trevorrow

We got word this week that we are getting a short film while we wait for the next Jurassic World movie in 2021, called Jurassic World: Battle at Big Rock. This short will premiere on FX on Sunday, September 15th at the end of an airing of Jurassic World. We didn’t get a lot of information right away, but the director, Colin Trevorrow, just gave us our first bit of info via an interview with Collider. In the interview, they asked him why he felt he needed to tell this story before the next film comes out. Here’s what he had to say:

“The world is bigger than just the characters we’ve been following in the films. We’ve finally taken the story off Isla Nublar, we wanted to show a glimpse of that new reality. If this really happened, you’d see a series of random disconnected incidents that would create a pattern of chaos. I wanted to see one of those incidents.”

And when asked about the plot of the short movie, here’s the description he gave:

“Battle At Big Rock is a short film that takes place one year after the events of Fallen Kingdom. It’s about a family on a camping trip to Big Rock National Park, about 20 miles from where the last film ended. There have been a few sightings, but this is the first major confrontation between dinosaurs and humans.”

That family is played by Andre Holland of Selma, Natalie Martinez of End of Watch, and child actors Melody Hurd and Pierson Salvador. There’s a photo above featuring the two main characters. One other cool bit of info he gave up was talking about the dinosaurs that will be featured in the short:

“There are two species we’ve never seen before. The Nasutoceratops, which is a beautiful herbivore that feels like a Texas Longhorn. And the Allosaurus, one of the most iconic dinosaurs of all time. This one was a juvenile in the last movie. She’s all grown up now.”

This is plenty to get excited about! The coolest part about this film is that it was kept under wraps so well, and because of that, we get to see it in just a few days! That’s pretty awesome, and I’m totally stoked about it. Are you excited to watch it?
