Details on Bruce Wayne's Road to Batman in GOTHAM, and How it Was Inspired By BATMAN: YEAR ONE
Bruce Wayne made some big leaps towards his transformation into the Dark Knight in Gotham Season 3 and that is going to continue in Season 4. His full transformation isn't going to happen anytime soon, but it will eventually happen.
When talking about Bruce's transformation, showrunner John Stephens had this to say during the Gotham panel at Comic-Con.
“He will wear body armor and grappling hooks, but he will not be Batman. It’s a little more of a Batman: Year One in a different setting.”
I always loved the Batman: Year One story arc and I think it's so cool that they are drawing inspiration from that with Gotham. He went on to tease other elements of Bruce Wayne that we'll see in the upcoming season, like how he learned to be a playboy.
“I’d say visually, when you look at what Bruce is going to be doing this season, it's gonna look far closer to what our conception of Batman is definitely gonna be. You're also going to get to see him do very specific things, certain elements like when you watch Bruce Wayne acting like a playboy, we sort of ask the question, how did he learn to do that so well? Well, maybe there's a time that he wasn't pretending to be that. And we actually play with a little bit of Bruce having a teenage spiral, where he enjoys the elements of being a billionaire with no parents in Gotham, that he can draw from later on to become the fake playboy.”
I like what I'm hearing, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the series plays out. Gotham Season 4 is set to premiere on Fox on Thursday, September 21st. I also included the Gotham Comic-Con Sizzle Reel below in case you missed it. There's exciting stuff comiung!
