Details on Micheal Keaton’s Role in BATGIRL and WB Releases Statement on Cancelation
Yesterday we learned that Warner Bros. is shelving Batgirl, and they will not release the film in any format. This is a crazy decision to make as they spent $90 million on it! The studio has since released an official statement which you can read below:
"The decision to not release Batgirl reflects our leadership's strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max. Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actor and this decision is not a reflection of her performance. We are incredibly grateful to the filmmakers of Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt and their respective casts and we hope to collaborate with everyone again in the near future."
So the film just didn’t fit the standard that they are looking to have with the DC films from here on out under the studio’s new leadership. It’s still a crazy decision! There’s a lot of work, money, and talent that went into making the movie! It seems like such a waste. It also makes me now wonder what they’re going to do with The Flash. Could that be shelved next due to all the drama surrounding Ezra Miller? The studio has made it clear that they don’t really know what to do with it.
As you know, Michael Keaton was supposed to show up in the film as Batman in Batgirl, and we have some details on how he would have fit in with the movie. This news comes from ViewerAnon, a reputable insider with knowledge of Warner Bros. He said that Keaton would have only appeared in five scenes in Batgirl. He shared:
“He meets Barbara twice in costume, first on the street telling her not to do this, then in one of those big Tim Burton-y towers where he helps her with something she needs. The last scene of the movie was them teaming up and diving off a gargoyle to fly around Gotham.”
"He didn't train Barbara, she just dressed up as Batman for a Halloween party, stopped some terrorists, and tweaked the costume to be a superhero. He meets Barbara twice in costume, first on the street telling her not to do this, then in one of those big Tim Burton-y towers where he helps her with something she needs."
Batgirl would have ended with the two caped crusaders "teaming up and diving off a gargoyle to fly around Gotham.”
I’m curious about this movie, and now I want to watch it just to see why the studio opted to ditch it. All I can think is that it must’ve been a crap film.
