Details on Why Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE Has Been Held Up Along With Updates on GREEN LANTERN and JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK

It turns out that Warner Media has been planning on bringing Zack Snyder’s Justice League into the light for some time now. There was just a lot of red tape and other things to figure out before they pulled the trigger on it.

In a new interview with Business Insider, HBO Max content chief Kevin Reilly explained why the process of making this happen took so long, saying:

"I forget when Zack and Deborah first gave us the sense of where they were heading, but even from that meeting, me and my team felt it was something we really wanted to do. There were a lot of issues involved to figure out how we could deliver on his vision, and a myriad of legal issues. We've been sitting on this for quite some time but working on it. It was obviously a secret project given the high level of interest, but we were chipping away at it piece by piece. There was some strategy but also some serendipity in how we got over the hurdle of some of those issues just before the launch."

When pressed for more specifics, Reilly didn’t go into any other details. He just said, "That's a whole separate interview. Let's file that as a follow up."

HBO Max and Snyder still haven’t committed to a release format for the Snyder Cut, be it a film that’s almost four-hours long or it could be a miniseries. There’s still a lot of work to be done on the film and the original post-production crew is being brought in to score the film, cut it, and add the VFX work. The cast is coming in to record some additional dialogue, and we know the film will feature Darkseid, with Ray Porter in the role.

Reilly also offered an update on the Green Lantern series coming to HBO Max, saying:

“Greg [Berlanti, who is producing a Green Lantern series for Max] has done a lot of really quality DC fare for The CW. These will not be that. These will be next step up in production value. You can expect the highest level of cinematic production values on those shows, and that’s the same for the projects we’ve announced with J.J. [Abrams].”

Reilly went on to talk about the Justice League Dark series, saying that Abrams is the one who pitched the idea, and that Abrams “always loved it. He always felt that there was a lot of opportunity there and an unexplored territory, and kind of a pond that he could play in exclusively.”

There are some exciting DC projects in the works, and it will be interesting to see how they all turn out. But, right now, everyone’s attention is on Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
