DETECTIVE PIKACHU Movie Casts Kathryn Newton As Female Lead
For those that need a refresher, yes there will be a live-action Pokemon movie. No, we do not have a release date yet, but we know that it will be in the hands of Legendary Pictures and the story will revolve around the Detective Pikachu character from the Great Detective Pikachu video game. Now, we have our female lead. Kathryn Newton will be the female counterpart to Justice Smith in this movie. Newton is known from HBO’s Big Little Lies, CBS’s Gary Unmarried, and Paranormal Activity 4. She had some stiff competition including Haley Lu Richardson (Split) and Natalia Dyer (Stranger Things), but after some reading and testing, Newton won the part.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Newton will play Lucy who is “a sassy journalist who goes on an adventure with the boy, played by Smith, and Pikachu.” There is no word on if Lucy’s Psyduck will make an appearance, but this movie really seems to be shaping up. Who would you have liked to see play Lucy? What kind of adventure can we expect from Detective Pikachu?
