Dev Patel and Rosy McEwen Get Lost in Psychedelic Folk Horror in Trailer for RABBIT TRAP
The first trailer has dropped for Rabbit Trap, a trippy new folk horror film starring Dev Patel and Rosy McEwen, and it looks like it’s going to burrow deep into your brain.
Premiering earlier this year at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, the film didn’t blow everyone away, but it made an impression with its eerie atmosphere and a descent into the strange.
Set in the rural Welsh countryside, Rabbit Trap follows married musicians Daphne and Darcy Davenport, who retreat from London to finish a new record. Instead of finding peace, they stumble upon an unexplainable sound that slowly pulls them into a hallucinatory nightmare.
Things start to spiral after Darcy accidentally records a mysterious audio signal unlike anything ever heard. According to the official synopsis:
“Seeking new inspiration & a fresh start, married musicians Daphne (Rosy McEwan) & Darcy (Dev Patel) move to the Welsh countryside to finish a new record. While collecting audio samples, Darcy inadvertently creates a field recording of mysterious sound never before heard by human ears.
“The discovery renews Daphne’s creative energy, but as the echoes of her music bleed into the surrounding landscape, ancient and malevolent woodland forces are disturbed. One day, a stranger arrives on their doorstep. The couple initially embraces the strange child, who helps them navigate and understand their new environment, but Darcy grows suspicious of his obsession.
Directed by Bryn Chainey, in his feature debut, and produced by Elijah Wood, Rabbit Trap is shaping up to be an arthouse horror that leans heavily into vibes and visual storytelling over traditional scares.
Our review summed it up well: “This film is definitely more atmospheric, with very few actual jump scares, but it does an excellent job of feeling spooky-yet-soothing. If you love a slow film that just lets you bask in folksy horror, you’ll enjoy this.”
Magnolia Pictures is set to release Rabbit Trap in select U.S. theaters on September 12th, 2025.
