Dev Patel Set to Play David Copperfield in Charles Dickens' THE PERSONAL HITORY OF DAVID COPPERFIELD

Dev Patel has been cast in the role of David Copperfield in an upcoming film based on Charles Dickens' classic novel The Personal History of David Copperfield, which is set to be directed and written by Veep creator Armando Iannucci. Before we go on, if you've never read this book, you need to. It's so good.

This may be an unexpected casting choice for the main character, but Patel is a great actor and I think he'll be great in the role. Variety offers the following information on the film:

The project will offer a modern take on Dickens’ title character as he navigates a chaotic world to find his elusive place within it. The original “David Copperfield” was first published in 1850 and describes the journey of the titular protagonist — who was modeled after Dickens himself, from impoverished childhood to becoming a successful author, thanks to perseverance and despite a lack of personal discipline.

I'm curious to see how this film turns out. It certainly has a talented team on board to bring it to life. I love what Iannucci has done with Veep and Patel was nominated for an Oscar last year for his work on Lion, which was such a fantastic film. He's come a long way since The Last Airbender. He is currently filming a movie called The Wedding Guest for Sony Pictures.

What do you think about Patel taking on the role of David Copperfield or the fact that this will be a modern take on the literary classic?
