DIABLO Animated Series Is Coming to Netflix
Hell is officially making its way to Netflix. BlizzCon 2026 has only just begun, and Blizzard Entertainment has already dropped a surprise that has nothing to do with a new game. A Diablo animated TV series is officially in development at Netflix, bringing Blizzard’s brutal fantasy universe to television.
Blizzard Entertainment president Johanna Faries announced the project on stage during BlizzCon, although Blizzard isn’t ready to reveal much beyond its existence. There’s no release date, trailer, cast, creative team, or first-look image yet. What we do know is that the series will be animated and set within the world of Diablo.
A press release shared with Variety offered a little more context about Blizzard’s plans to expand its properties beyond games:
“After decades of bringing entire universes to life through our games, we’re partnering with some creative powerhouses to tell even more stories beyond gaming across new screens,” reads the release.
“A new animated series set in the world of Diablo is in development with Netflix. More details will be shared in the future, but this is only the beginning, with even more taking shape across our universes.”
The announcement certainly leaves plenty of questions. Blizzard hasn’t said when or where the story takes place within Diablo lore, whether it will feature established characters, or if it will tell a completely original story.
Animation feels like a great fit for Diablo, though. The franchise has spent decades building a nasty, gothic world filled with demons, angels, corrupted kingdoms, horrifying creatures, and some seriously wild mythology. A series can dig into corners of Sanctuary that the games haven’t had the opportunity to fully explore.
It also joins Netflix’s growing collection of video game adaptations. The streamer has released projects connected to The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077, Splinter Cell, Tomb Raider, Castlevania, Dragon Quest, Resident Evil, League of Legends, Cuphead, Sonic the Hedgehog, Dragon Age, Tekken, Far Cry, and Pokémon, among others.
Diablo has all the ingredients for one hell of fun and crazy animated show. Give us Sanctuary, terrifying demons, gruesome battles, and the franchise’s dark fantasy atmosphere, and there’s plenty of potential here.
Now we wait to see exactly what Blizzard and Netflix are cooking up in Hell.
