DIAL M FOR MURDER Anthology Series in Development with Alicia Vikander and Terence Winter
When you hear the title Dial M For Murder, the first thing to pop in most people’s minds is director Alfred Hitchock’s 1954 mystery-thriller. His film was based on the play by Frederick Knott, and now it’s being adapted as an anthology series.
The series is being developed and produced by Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider) and Boardwalk Empire and The Sopranos creator Terence Winter. Vikander is also going to star in the series, which is said to “re-imagine the thriller from a female point of view.”
The original story followed Ex-tennis pro Tony Wendice who wants to have his wealthy wife, Margot, murdered so he can get his hands on her inheritance. When he discovers she is having an affair with Mark Halliday, he comes up with the perfect plan to kill her. He blackmails an old acquaintance into carrying out the murder, but the carefully-orchestrated set-up doesn’t work and Margot lives. Wendice must then frantically scheme to outwit the police and avoid having his plot detected.
It’ll be interesting to see how this series turns out. Hitchcock’s film is great and it’s a classic, but I’m curious to see how this story will be reimagined for a new modern audience.
The project has got some great talent attached to it, so chances are this will end up being a solid show worth checking out.
