Diane Lane Joins Mike Flanagan’s THE EXORCIST Movie

The next chapter of The Exorcist is coming together, and it just landed a seriously cool addition. Diane Lane has officially joined the cast of The Exorcist, the upcoming reboot being written and directed by Mike Flanagan.

Lane will star alongside Scarlett Johansson alongside Hamnet breakout Jacobi Jupe. There’s no official word yet on who Lane will be playing, and story details are locked down tight. What we do know is that this movie is telling a completely new story set within The Exorcist universe and has no narrative connection to The Exorcist: Believer from 2023.

Flanagan is once again pulling double duty, directing from his own script. Production is set to take place in New York City. He’s producing through his Red Room Pictures banner, alongside David Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment and Jason Blum for Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

Lane’s casting is especially interesting. She’s coming off a standout run on Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, and her presence adds a certain gravitas that fits right in with Flanagan’s style of character-driven psychological horror.

Universal has already locked in a theatrical release date, with the new The Exorcist set to hit theaters on Friday, March 12, 2027. That’s still a ways off, but with a filmmaker like Flanagan at the helm and a cast like this coming together, this reboot is shaping up to be one horror fans are going to want to keep a close eye on.
