Dick Van Dyke Is Set to Appear in MARY POPPINS RETURNS

Dick Van Dyke, the actor who played Bert in the original Mary Poppins, will be returning for the sequel! The news comes from a THR series called “Creative Until You Die,” which focuses on people who are over 90 and are still actively working in Hollywood. When talking about Mary Poppins Returns, the actor said:

“This one supposedly takes place 20 years later and the kids are all grown up. It’s a great cast — Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury and that guy [Lin-Manuel Miranda] from Hamilton.”

There's no information on who he'll be playing in Mary Poppins Returns, but the fact that it's taking place 20 years later tells me that he, unfortunately, won't be reprising his role as Bert. Why? Because in real life, 50 years have passed since the first film was made. I guess they could digitally make him look 30 years younger if he is coming back to reprise his role, which I think would be cool.

Van Dyke's Bert is probably one of my favorite movie characters. I loved watching him in that role when I was a kid. He was just such a youthful, fun, and energetic character with a heart of gold. I'm so happy that Van Dyke will have a role to play in Disney's upcoming sequel, even if it's a small one.
