Did You See That? RWBY Volume 6 Episode 11

The latest episode of RWBY is available to watch for free, so we’re going to talk about it a bit. Feel free to discuss the series up to this point but do be nice and not post anything from future episodes.

I’ve needed this episode. I’ve been needing some great RWBY action. I love the character development, but it’s been a lot of exposition and character building for a long time without any action. I’ve needed a little butt kicking action to help pick me up after some depressing moments. There were two fights in total and I plan on going through both.

The first fight is everyone but Yang and Blake fighting off Caroline Cordovin in her mech. This has some great moments as they work to defeat the mech without one of their own. Qrow seems to have perked up and stopped his little pity party which is great to see, there’s some great use of semblances ranging from Jaune saving Nora to Weiss summoning that Lancer and Ruby using her speed to walk on the missiles, and Nora delivers the great line “Get back here with my man” after Ren climbs on Cordovin’s mech to attack it. This fight is just pure fun to watch and I’m really glad we had it.

The other fight is where all the intrigue was. We see Blake and Adam fighting in the woods and it’s pretty intense. It seems as though Adam is the better fighter, but Blake isn’t backing down. She switches between being on the offense and defense pretty seamlessly, but Adam’s pure strength is putting pressure on her. That’s when Yang shows up and starts fighting him. She is able to do quite a bit to him, but thanks to his semblance (which we finally learn about) it’s a lot harder than it looks to beat him.

I guess his semblance is that he can absorb energy with his sword and then use it as a destructive force. I have some questions about this semblance, such as does that mean his sword is part of his body, or how does that work exactly. I also want to know though why we keep seeing afterimages of him as he fights if they’re not his semblance. Of course, Yang tells him to run but she is shaking, and Adam thinks it’s because she’s scared of him.

While I can understand that as he was the one who cut off her arm, I wonder if she’s more scared about using her semblance. Talking with some friends, I realized that Yang hasn’t used her semblance since her last fight with Adam where he took off her arm. The episode ends with some of the dumbest lines I’ve ever heard. Blake says something to the effect of Yang isn’t protecting Blake and Blake isn’t protecting Yang, but they’re protecting each other. I get that this was supposed to be an empowering moment (and I’m pretty sure every Bumblebee shipper out there squeed like there was no tomorrow), but it just sounds dumb.
