Did You See That? RWBY Volume 7 Episode 3
The third episode of RWBY’s seventh volume has aired for Rooster Teeth First members and it was awesome. I don’t want to spoil anything for those who are waiting for the episode to become free, so I will go ahead and warn you of spoilers to come.
This episode features the makeover we’ve all been waiting for. Everyone gets new duds and haircuts and it’s pretty awesome for the most part. My biggest complaint is that we didn’t have a superfluous episode (or 5 minutes really) of the makeover happening. We see some of their reactions to receiving new gear, but I’m genuinely interested in why they styled their hair that way. Plus, they mention that the changes to the outfits and weapons were to help enhance their abilities, but it could’ve been really cool to have a breakdown for some bits. Would it have helped move the story? Probably not. Would it have been cool for people like me who are interested in knowing things like that? Fudge yeah!
Anyway, after getting some of their new gear, we do get a moment where Oscar asks to talk to Ruby. Of course, I’m sure many thought it was going to be about Oscar confessing his feelings or something like that, but that was not the case. We later find out that Oscar is concerned about the fact that Ruby’s hiding information from Ironwood. We find this out when Team RWBY shares their concerns with Ruby a little later. Of course, RWBY is more okay with it, but in the flashback, Oscar deals a powerful blow. He mentions that keeping Ironwood in the dark like this is the same thing that Ozpin had done. Ouch.
Anyway, RWBY, JNR, and Qrow accompany Ace Ops on a mission to an old dust mine which is being haunted by Grimm. This mine is apparently key to getting Amnity Tower up and running to restore communication (part one of Ironwood’s plan). On this mission, the heroes team up with different members of Ace Ops and we see Qrow got some new threads as well and they look awesome! Anyway, the heroes end up fighting some minor Grimm before running into the main one that’s causing problems. During a brief moment, we also find out the leader of Ace Ops apparently has a semblance that brings good luck, essentially canceling out with Qrow’s semblance of bad luck. When this is revealed, Qrow gets a look that I’m not sure means he just became gay for the guy or he wants a bromance with him, or what, but it’s funny to see.
I can only imagine the burden that Qrow feels lifted at that point as his whole life has been something that he’s blamed on himself and his semblance. Now, there’s a way to help tone it down at least and not put those he loves in nearly as much danger.
Eventually, the heroes all meet up at a central point and defeat the haunting Grimm. It’s at the very end that we learn something very interesting. Harriet (the hare faunus most likely based on The Tortoise and the Hare) has a semblance that makes her superfast like Quicksilver. Ruby also seems to have a speed-boosting semblance. However, when Hare sees Ruby’s semblance, she says that it’s very unique form the other speed-based semblances she’s seen and something else is probably up. Huh? What? What more could Ruby have on her side?
Finally, we see Tyrion seemingly kill one of Robin Hood’s followers. That, or something else bad with his mechanical tail. Why? What’s going to happen? When will we meet Robin?
