Director Adam McKay Teams Up With Jennifer Lawrence for Elizabeth Holmes Movie BAD BLOOD
Adam McKay (The Big Short, Vice) is set to write and direct a new film titled Bad Blood, which will tell the true story of Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of Theranos. The projects is set up at Apple Original Films and Jennifer Lawrence is set to star in the film as she will take on the role of Holmes.
Legendary Pictures is also producing the project, which is based on the book Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley from Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist John Carreyrou, who broke the initial story.
Holmes is a Stanford dropout who founded medical testing start-up Theranos. She was attempting to develop a new invention that promised to revolutionize blood testing and in the process, she became the world's youngest self-made billionaire, and she was heralded as the next Steve Jobs.
Two years later, her multibillion-dollar company was dissolved when it was revealed that none of the tech actually worked, putting thousands of people’s health in grave danger.
There’s actually a great HBO documentary titled The Inventor that tells this fascinating story in detail. Holmes ended up being indicted by a federal jury in 2018, along with former Theranos chief operating officer, on nine counts of wire fraud and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. The trial is currently underway.
This is the second project in development that is talking on the story of Holmes. Hulu is also developing a series titled The Dropout, and Amanda Seyfried is taking on the role of Elizabeth Holmes. That project is based on on the ABC Radio and ABC News podcast about Holmes.
