Director Adam Wingard's FACE/OFF Film Will Be a Direct Sequel, Not a Remake

It was recently reported that Godzilla Vs. Kong director Adam Wingard would be helming a remake of John Woo’s classic ‘90s action movie Face/Off. Well, it turns out that Wingard’s movie isn’t actually a reboot or a remake… it’s a direct sequel to the original film!

In a shared social media post by screenwriter Simon Barrett, Wingard revealed:

“I would never re-imagine or remake Face/Off. It’s a perfect action movie. Simon Barrett and I are writing a direct Sequel!”

Hell yeah! While I was initially interested to see what Wingard would do with a remake, the fact that he’s actually making a sequel is so much more exciting!

There are no deals on what the story for the sequel will entail or if it will include any of the original actors. Nicolas Cage’s character died at the end of the original film, so if any main actor did return, it would have to be John Travolta. But who knows, maybe they will continue the story in some way without any characters from the original movie. The initial report did say that this film’s leads will be recast, so we’ll see what happens.

What do you all think about Face/Off getting a sequel instead of a remake?
