Director and Producer Ivan Reitman Passes Away at 75

It’s with a heavy heart that I have to tell you that producer-director and Ivan Reitman has passed at the age of 75. Reitman is the man behind films such as Meatballs, Stripes, Ghostbusters, Twins, Kindergarten Cop, and many more. He most recently produced Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which his son, Jason Reitman, directed. Reitman’s first film project as a producer was National Lampoon’s Animal House.

His children Jason Reitman, Catherine Reitman and Caroline Reitman, shared the following joint statement:

“Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father, and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life. We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always.”

The cause of Reitman’s death has not been released. I grew up watching Reitman’s movies and many of them still make me laugh my ass off when I watch them! Meatballs, Stripes and Ghostbusters are so freakin’ funny, and they are films that I tend to watch when I’m feeling down in the dumps because they offer me the pick me up that I need to get out of whatever funk I’m in.

Damn, it’s sad that he’s gone! But, he has left behind a wonderful and entertaining legacy of films that fans will be able to continue to enjoy. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Reitman is survived by his wife Genevieve; his son Jason, a director; and daughters Catherine, a TV actress-writer-producer, and Caroline.
