Director Brad Bird's Next Film Project is a Live-Action/Animated Musical

Brad Bird, the director behind The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, has shared a few details on his next film project.

While talking to Variety, the filmmaker revealed that he’s currently developing an original live-action musical that will include 20-minutes of animated footage. He also says that he’s “deathly afraid” of it. Here’s what he said:

“Well it’s a musical, actually. I don’t know anything about musicals so I figured I should do this, because I’m deathly afraid of it and it seems like a cool thing. It’s a project I’ve been wanting to make for a long time, it’s got about 20 minutes of animation in it. It’s an original project, I assure you you don’t know.”

Bird also revealed that he will be working with composer Michael Giacchino, who recently worked with Bird on Incredibles 2. He will be “doing the music” on the film. But, it’s not clear if he’ll be composing the score or working on the musical numbers or both. The two talents also worked together on The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Ghost Protocol.

Bird hasn’t made a movie yet that I haven’t loved. He’s such a great filmmaker and story teller and I’m sure this next project is going to turn out great! I can’t wait to see what he has been planning!
