Director Chad Stahelski's GHOST OF TSUSHIMA Movie Moves Forward with a Writer

John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski has been developing a film adaptaiton of the PlayStation’s beautifully awesome Samurai game, Ghost of Tsushima. The film is being produced by Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, and it just took a big step forward with a writer being hired.

Takashi Doscher is set to write the screenplay. He previously wrote and directed the romantic sci-fi romance, Only, starring Freida Pinto and Leslie Odom Jr. He also made the film Still, which is currently available on Hulu, as well as the documentary A Fighting Chance, which aired on ESPN. Doscher’s most recent project was a screenplay he wrote for a film titled Blue, which is currently in development with AGBO and MGM. It’s said to be a twist on a Japanese monster movie.

The game, which was developed by Sucker Punch Productions, centers around samurai warrior Jin Sakai, the last surviving member of his clan, who must set aside the traditions that have shaped him as a warrior to wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Tsushima.

In the late 13th century, the Mongol empire has laid waste to entire nations along their campaign to conquer the East. Tsushima Island is all that stands between mainland Japan and a massive Mongol invasion fleet led by the ruthless and cunning general, Khotun Khan. As the island burns in the wake of the first wave of the Mongol assault, samurai warrior Jin Sakai stands as one of the last surviving members of his clan. He is resolved to do whatever it takes, at any cost, to protect his people and reclaim his home. He must set aside the traditions that have shaped him as a warrior to forge a new path, the path of the Ghost, and wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Tsushima.

Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions previously said in a statement, “We’re excited to be partnering with Chad and 87Eleven Entertainment, to bring their vision of Jin’s story to the big screen. We love working with creative partners like Chad, who have a passion for our games, ensuring we can create rich adaptations that will excite our fans and new audiences.”

I loved this game, and I think Stahelski is going to end up making an incredibly cool action-packed samurai film!
