Director Christopher McQuarrie Says MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 7 and 8 Need To Swallow The Last Three Movies
Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie have done some incredible things with the Mission: Impossible franchise. They are now developing two more movies that they will be shooting back-to-back and you can bet your ass that it’s not going to be an easy feat for them, especially if Cruise ends up getting hurt in the process.
During a recent interview with Empire, McQuarrie admits that he’s kind of afraid of what lies ahead of them as they develop Mission: Impossible 7 and 8. He also says that these new films need to “swallow the last three movies whole.”
McQuarrie says, “I pitched the idea of making two movies, and now I have to justify why it’s two movies.” He goes on to say:
“You’ve got to earn that. You’ve got to make something that swallows the last three movies whole. I’m freaked out now. We’ve talked ourselves into something. Holy shit.”
He doesn’t offer any details on what we can expect from the story of these films, but don’t expect them to go to space like a lot of fans have speculated. He jokes:
“Here’s the problem with going to the moon: how do you fall from the moon?”
Whatever Cruise and McQuarrie are planning, I’m on board! I’m ready to see Ethan Hunt and his team on another crazy-ass adventure that will end up being bigger and crazier than the last three films. That’s obviously their goal, and I can’t wait to see what they do and how they pull it off!
Mission: Impossible 7 hits theaters on July 23, 2021, and Mission: Impossible 8 will follow on August 5, 2022.
