Director Denis Villeneuve is Casting Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides in DUNE

As you all know by now, Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve is developing a new feature film adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune. Now he is casting the first star to be in it. According to DeadlineTimothee Chalamet (Lady Bird, Call Me By Your Name) is in negotiations to star in the film as Paul Atreides.

Set in the distant future, Dune follows Paul Atreides, whose family assumes control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, jurisdiction over Arrakis is contested among competing noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature, as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s reign.

Chalamet seems like a talented young actor. He was nominated for an Oscar this year for Best Actor, so that says something. He certainly fits the role as well. I like that they are getting a young actor to play the character. In the novel, he's only fifteen years old which Chalamet can easily pull off.

What do you think about Chalamet being cast in the role of  Paul Atreides in the film?
