Director Doug Liman Explains How JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Won't Be as Bloated as Other Comic Book Films

Edge of Tomorrow and Swingers director Doug Liman is currently deep in development on his feature film adaptation of Justice League Dark. As you know, Guillermo del Toro had been developing this film for Warner Bros. for years, but nothing ever came of it. I would have loved to see his vision, but I think that Liman is a solid choice to take it on. I certainly like the approach he's taking.

During an interview with Cinema Blend, the director opened up a bit about what he's planning, and he explains how Justice League Dark isn't going to be as bloated as other comic book movies that have been made. He says:

"I think people will be surprised how character driven and how intimate Justice League Dark is -- in kind of a field of bloated comic book movies. We've found a way to do something that's actually really personal and small, and that's my goal. [My new movie] The Wall is about character. The scenario allows me to dive into what I think is... I just love people! I love putting people in crazy situations. For John Constantine, we have an amazing set-up for him for Justice League Dark that's really human."

I like the fact that he is going with a smaller, more intimate story. I'm actually really curious to see how that turns out for a property like this, with such big and powerful characters that can wield supernatural powers. It's also going to be interesting to see this "amazing set-up" that he has planned for Constantine.

Constantian will be joined by a roster of dark heroes that include Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon. We have no idea what the story will entail, or the villain they will be facing off against. Regardless, it sounds to me like Liman is on the right track. What do you think?
