Director Gavin O'Connor Confirms THE ACCOUNTANT Is Happening with Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal
One of my favorite Ben Affleck movies is the action is the assassin action-thriller The Accountant, and the director of that film, Gavin O’Connor, just announced that we are getting a sequel!
Affleck played Christian Wolff in the movie, a mathematics savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Using a small-town CPA office as a cover, he makes his living as a freelance accountant for dangerous criminal organizations. In the first movie, he takes on a state-of-the-art robotics company as a legitimate client but learns there is something more sinister going on. So he embarks on a mission to put an end to it.
O’Connor broke the news of the sequel while he was a guest on the ReelBlend podcast. He shared, “There will not be a Way Back sequel, but we are doing an Accountant sequel. We literally just closed that deal. We’re doing The Accountant again.”
Affleck will return for the sequel and the director also revealed that Jon Bernthal will be back as well. He plays Christian’s brother, Braxton, in the franchise, and this sequel will include Braxton in the story in a bigger role. O’Connor also says that he wants to make a third film as well, which he calls “Rain Man on steroids”:
Yeah. Yeah. So, I've always wanted to do three because what, the second one's going to be more with -- we're going to integrate his brother into the story. So there'll be more screen time for Bernthal in the second one. And then the third movie’s going to be, I call it, ‘Rain Man on steroids.’ The third movie is going to be the two brothers, this odd couple. The third one is going be a buddy picture.
Well, it’s great that O’Connor is moving forward with his sequel, and I hope that he gets to complete his trilogy and tell the full story that he has planned! In the meantime, I’ll be looking forward to his sequel!
