Director Jake Schreier Reveals Funny Original Idea for Scrapped THUNDERBOLTS* Post-Credits Scene

Thunderbolts* was well-received, both by critics and fans, and its post-credits scenes got fans excited as well. The mid-credits clip was just a goofy scene wherein Red Guardian (David Harbour) is making sure that his fellow grocery store shoppers are aware that he is featured on the box of Wheaties in the cereal aisle.

Then the post-credits scene is a heavier hitter, which connects our heroes to the Fantastic Four. It’s all very exciting, but it turns out that one of these scenes might have been different.

It was made clear that the Russo brothers came in to direct the post-credits scene that featured the Fantastic Four, as the convergence of all these characters will be seen in Avengers: Doomsday. But before that plan was laid out, Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier said he had another funny Red Guardian scene lined up.

Schreier told ComicBookMovie that the other scene he had planned would have tied into a funny running joke in the film:

“I mean, Alexei is just so fun. I mean, you could come up with post-credits scenes for Alexei all day. I think we did have one other idea that maybe it could be the VHS home video of the soccer game with Mindy, and that might be fun; the chaos of that going back in time. But I don’t know. This is just where we landed.”

So we could have seen Yelena’s Thunderbolts soccer team in action! I think that would have been a lot of fun, but I’m happy with what we ended up with as well.
