Director James Gunn Admits He's Never Seen THE GOONIES
Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad director James Gunn recently admitted on social media that he’s never seen The Goonies. That’s both surprising and crazy to me! I don’t know how anyone who grew up in the 80s and is a lover of movies could miss out on producer Steven Spielberg and director Richard Donner’s classic adventure film. But, when a question went out on Twitter asking users what movie they consistently nod in agreement about having seen in casual conversation when in fact they’ve never seen the movie, Gunn responded:
“People seem to be shocked my answer is Goonies. What movie do you nod & pretend you've seen just because you don't want to have to deal with your acquaintances being outraged you haven't seen it? This is my opportunity to be outraged with the movies you haven't seen.”
Gunn went on to share a list of movies that he finds outrageous that people haven’t seen, and those films include, Godfather 1&2 (but not 3!), Die Hard, Jaws, 2001, The Matrix, Back to the Future, Citizen Kane, Pulp Fiction, The Wizard of Oz, and Rocky. He goes on to say:
“This is not a list of movies I haven’t seen - I’ve seen all of them many times. It’s movies I find outrageous if you haven’t seen them.”
Well, I’ve seen all those movies many times as well, including The Goonies. Hopefully, one day Gunn sits down to watch The Goonies. I’d be interested to know what he thought of it.
Are there any classic movies that lots of people talk about that you haven’t seen? Let us know in the comments below! I personally can’t think of one for myself. I’ve made an effort to see all of the must-see movies out there.
