Director James Mangold Teases His Involvement With DC Studios' SWAMP THING

James Gunn and Peter Safran's first wave of big DC Studios plans, Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, dropped yesterday and it’s been fun to see the reactions of fans. One of the most exciting projects that were announced was the Swamp Thing movie!

There was one bit of news about that announcement that no one else really picked up on, because it wasn’t officially announced, and that included the possible involvement of Logan and Ford v Ferrari director James Mangold. We included that bit of news in our rundown of DC projects, and now Mangold himself is teasing his involvement!

The filmmaker recently shared a page from Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson's run on Swamp Thing. It shows Swamp Thing standing in the marsh with the sun setting in the background. It’s a beautiful piece of comic art and it comes with the caption:

"Like one, who on a lonely road doth walk in fear and dread... and having once turned round, walks on... and turns no more his head... because he knows a frightful fiend doth close behind him tread."

Gunn said of the film project: “And then, the final film that we want to mention is Swamp Thing. Because we want to point out that these stories, although they're interconnected, they're not all totally the same. So each set of filmmakers brings their own aesthetic to these films. And the fun is seeing how these totally different works will mash-up in the future. So it investigates the dark origins of swamp thing So, totally very different than Superman or Batman or Robin etc.” This character will also interact with the mainstream DC characters.

Mangold is a great director and Swamp Thing is an awesome DC film project for him to take on. As I said yesterday, with Mangold at the helm there’s a good chance that Swamp Thing is going to be a great movie!
