Director Joe Carnahan Drops Out of BAD BOYS 3
I was actually looking forward to seeing director Joe Carnahan's vision of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence's Bad Boys for Life. The director is known for his wild and crazy movies, and I think he would've given us a badass action movie. Unfortunately, according to THR, Carnahan has dropped out of the project and is no longer directing.
Some sources tell the site that the director has left due to scheduling conflicts, but other sources say it was because of "creative differences." So basically we don't really know why he left. Maybe it's a little bit of both.
Carnahan is currently in the process of developing a remake of The Raid with Frank Grillo, and he's also been rumored to be writing and directing fox's X-Force film. He also recently completed a script for the Uncharted movie, so the guy is definitely keeping himself busy. It wouldn't surprise me if there were scheduling conflicts, especially if he's looking to start shooting The Raid soon.
The studio is already on the hunt for a new director and they may be looking to hire a new writer as well. Carnahan wrote the most recent draft of the script. The studio is still looking to get the film into production this coming fall because Smith committed to the film after he shifted his schedule around to make it happen. The release date is currently set for November 8th, 2018.
The Bad Boys action franchise is a fun one, and I hope that the studio is able to find a suitable replacement. It's a bummer that Carnahan left the project, but we can expect more insane action films from him. They just won't be Bad Boys for Life.
