Director Jon M. Chu Offers Update on His Long-Delayed Sequel NOW YOU SEE ME 3

After the success of the fun magic movie Now You See Me back in 2013, we got the sequel Now You See Me 2 in 2016. This was a solid sequel, even with Isla Fisher missing from the cast because her pregnancy prevented her from shooting the movie. Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman returned, and Daniel Radcliffe and Lizzy Caplan came aboard the second movie to round out the cast. Since then, fans have wondered when we would get a third film.

Jon. M. Chu, director of the second movie, as well as Crazy Rich Asians and the Apple TV+ series Home Before Dark, as well as Lin-Manuel Miranda’s upcoming movie, In the Heights, spoke recently with ComingSoon, where he said:

“Before I did Crazy Rich Asians, there was a version [of the script] that was okay, but we weren’t going to drag everyone back until it was great. So we let it be in Lionsgate’s hands for a second, so we’ll see what happens. I would love to work with Jesse again, he’s one of my favorite people in the world.”

So I guess we are just waiting for someone at Lionsgate to get us a script put together. Chu went on to talk about his recent projects and what he’s excited to work on in the future:

“The exploration of longer-form storytelling like this show and other shows is something I would love to do. It’s very exciting getting to dig deeper into characters that have just as much fun and pizzazz as a movie like Now You See Me, which was so much fun to do. But going deeper into these characters layer by layer is just so exciting and the opportunity I got in this was amazing. So we’ll have to wait and see about Now You See Me 3 or Now You 3 Me.”

I know almost everything has had the pause button hit on it for now, but hopefully after all this is done, we will get our third installment of this fun franchise. Are you looking forward to Now You See Me 3?
