Director Josh Boone Puts THE STAND Movie on Hold to Adapt Stephen King’s REVIVAL
I’ve been looking forward to seeing Josh Boone’s big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand. It’s been a long time coming, but it looks like we’re going to have to wait a little longer. That’s ok, though! The Fault of Our Stars director is taking the time to to adapt another Stephen King novel called Revival.
The director still plans on making The Stand, but he’s looking to do Revival first. Boone wants this to be his next film project, and he has already written a script for the film, which he has handed over to Universal Pictures for their consideration.
I haven’t read the book yet, but I’ve heard that it's great. That’s not really surprising because King always tells great stories. The novel is officially described as follows:
“In a small New England town, over half a century ago, a shadow falls over a small boy playing with his toy soldiers. Jamie Morton looks up to see a striking man, the new minister. Charles Jacobs, along with his beautiful wife, will transform the local church. The men and boys are all a bit in love with Mrs. Jacobs; the women and girls feel the same about Reverend Jacobs—including Jamie’s mother and beloved sister, Claire. With Jamie, the Reverend shares a deeper bond based on a secret obsession. When tragedy strikes the Jacobs family, this charismatic preacher curses God, mocks all religious belief, and is banished from the shocked town.’
“Jamie has demons of his own. Wed to his guitar from the age of thirteen, he plays in bands across the country, living the nomadic lifestyle of bar-band rock and roll while fleeing from his family’s horrific loss. In his mid-thirties—addicted to heroin, stranded, desperate—Jamie meets Charles Jacobs again, with profound consequences for both men. Their bond becomes a pact beyond even the Devil’s devising, and Jamie discovers that revival has many meanings.”
There’s no doubt that Revival will make an awesome movie. As far as The Stand goes, he’s completed a script for that as well. According to the report, Boone is determined to make that movie and he has “practically set a cast, with verbal commitments.” It’s still going to take a little longer to prep that movie because the rights to it reverted back to CBS Films. So, Boone wanted to do something in the meantime. That something will be Revival, which he wants to shoot later this year.
Hopefully, everything with The Stand gets sorted out, but while we're waiting, at least we’ll be getting another entertaining Stephen King movie!
