Director Louis Leterrier Says He Would Love to Reunite With Jason Statham to Make More TRANSPORTER Movies

Director Louis Leterrier is known for making Now You See Me, The Incredible Hulk, Fast X, and so much more, but his career really kicked off when he helmed The Transporter, starring Jason Statham in 2002. He came back to direct the sequel, Transporter 2 in 2005, but skipped out on the franchise after that. Statham went on to star in one more movie, but ultimately stepped away as well.

Back in 2015, Statham spoke with Vulture (via CB) to reveal why he left the franchise, saying:

"You know what? It was obviously a great experience doing those films, and I would have loved to keep doing it. But they wanted me to sign on and do three more films without even seeing a script, and they offered me less money to do three than I'd get paid for one! So it was a business decision. I would have loved to have done it, but you can't really sign on without doing a script, and to sign on for three of them? And to get paid a pittance? I just couldn't see the value in that."

It’s ridiculous that the studio didn’t see Statham’s value and the draw of the franchise enough to make his return worth it. But eight years have passed, and maybe the studio would be interested in returning to the movies again. Louis Leterrier has shown his interest.

The director reunited with Statham in the recent film, Fast X, and when asked what it was like to direct him again, and his opinion on returning to their original movie franchise, Leterrier said:

"I mean, that would be a dream. No, I mean we've shot commercials together, we've seen each other socially, but we hadn't worked together for a long, long time and just seeing him being able to work with him, call action on the shot he was in. Directing him was just like it was so great and it was the beginning of his career, the very beginning of my career with two different people. But at the same time, you know, our heart is the same and our love for each other is the same. It was a true pleasure. So, I mean, why not like that? You know, Frank Martin is a great character. The Transporter is a great character. An Jason [Statham] is an amazing actor. We need more Transporter, right?"

I think so! I loved the Transporter movies, and I think fans would be receptive to a reboot with the original star and director. What do you think?
