Director Michael Mann Developing a Remake of the Korean Crime Thriller VETERAN

Director Michael Mann (Ferrari, Heat, The Last of the Mohicans) has jumped on board a new film project and is set to develop a remake of the South Korean crime thriller Veteran. This news comes not long after the filmmaker confirmed that his next movie would be Heat 2.

The official synopsis for the original 2015 movie reads: “An honest cop seeks justice for a common man against all odds. A rich boy seeks revenge on the cop.” The original movie was directed by Ryoo Seung-wan, and it’s said to have a “comedic or crowd-pleasing tone.”

Veteran is in early development and he is working with the U.S. and Korean wings of CJ ENM, Korea’s leading film and TV conglomerate. While Mann is currently developing the film, we don’t know if Mann himself will be directing it or if he’ll just take production and writing credits.

A source said: “We are developing a script with Michael Mann, but his role and our schedule are not fixed yet.” The project was in the works before the strikes hit, but as of right now there’s no word on when it will fully pick up again.

Mann is currently putting his focus, attention, and energy in the development of Heat 2, which is set up at Warner Bros.
