Director Mike Dougherty Reveals GODZILLA Sequel Photo That Teases a Connection To The Original 1954 Film

Director Mike Dougherty (Trick 'r Treat) is deep in production with the Godzilla sequel and today he shared a new photo from the set. This photo features an Easter egg that teases a connection to the original 1954 movie.

If you're familiar with the original film, you'll notice that the photo shows the Oxygen Destroyer, which was developed by the Dr. Serizawa. In case you're not familiar with the device, it removes oxygen from whatever body of water it is placed in and it was used to destroy Godzilla.

Ken Watanabe plays Dr. Serizawa in this giant monster universe that Legendary Pictures is developing with Warner Bros. This photo means that he either creates this weapon in the upcoming sequel or it's actually the original one that was created in the 1950s to kill the original Godzilla.

The sequel "follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance."

The Godzilla sequel also stars Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air, The Conjuring), Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Bradley Whitford (Get Out), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Aisha Hinds (Star Trek Into Darkness), and Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).

The movie is set to be released in release in March 2019.
