Director Mike Dougherty Says He Wants To Make a Godzilla Film Set in Ancient Times

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is hitting theaters this month, and next year Godzilla vs Kong is coming to the silver screen. What is going to happen after 2020 though? No one knows, but Mike Dougherty is already thinking about what he would like to do. In a recent interview with SFX (via CB), Dougherty talked about his desire to go back in time:

I like the idea of going back in time, and telling creature stories from different eras.

Skull Island was set in the 70’s, but personally I’d like to do GODZILLA-BC, go back to ancient times and really see the Ray Harryhausen-esque world where primitive humans had to try to survive with these creatures. Maybe we’d get to see the first time mankind truly encountered Godzilla, and get to see how that relationship was christened.

That could be nuts! Could you imagine watching a film of humans in 500 BC fighting the massive kaiju? I am looking forward to see how things play out for the monsters in King of the Monsters, which will come to theaters on May 31th.
