Director Patty Jenkins Teases WONDER WOMAN 1984's Version of the "No Man's Land" Scene
Obviously, the best part of Wonder Woman was every close up of Chris Pine, but a very close second was the so-called “No Man’s Land” scene, in which Gal Gadot hops out of her trench wearing her Amazonian armor and everyone was too agog at her otherworldly beauty to remember to shoot. At least, I think that’s how that scene went. I was too agog at her otherworldly beauty to remember the details. Just kidding, it was when Diana Prince singlehandedly took on the German army as Steve Trevor, Sameer, Charlie, and The Chief sort of ambled along behind her.
Well, good news for people who wondered if the upcoming sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, could possibly live up to the original, and ALSO for people who thought maybe Patty Jenkins and her team would deliver a dull retread of the first film. Jenkins told Variety:
"I have a scene that's in this movie that is totally different but it's my 'No Man's Land' scene. It's like there's one scene I am so excited about, and you have all those different things. It won't be the same scene, but there are some moments I'm really excited about.”
So Jenkins is promising us equally awesome but different, and I believe her. Wonder Woman was fantastic, and I have total faith in whatever she is going to serve up, even though I don’t know that I would have chosen 1984 as the ideal period setting for the sequel. Jenkins has some interesting things to say about that as well.
"You know what was cool. We're treating the era differently than I've seen so far, which I feel like there have a lot of interesting versions of doing the era. In our version, as a child of the '8os myself, yes there was funny, ha-ha outfits I can't believe I wore, for sure. But there's also incredible music, incredible art. And so I really felt like the 1980s is mankind at their most extreme and at their best. It was when we could do anything we wanted and we had no idea of the price yet. So we have really committed to that version of the '80s, where it's not needle drops, and it's not a bunch of jokes. It's actually the most aspirational and elegant version of the '80s in many places."
I don’t know about you, but I am very relieved that it is going to be cool ‘80s rather than jokey ‘80s. Not everything was terrible for that entire decade, so if they are keeping the shoulder pads in check, I think it’ll be great.
Wonder Woman 1984 sees the return of Gadot and Pine, and adds Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal to the cast. It’ll hit theaters on June 5, 2020, which is just too long to wait, so I have included the No Man’s Land scene below. It’ll help to tide you over and also drive away that bad case of the Mondays you’re nursing.
