ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA Director Explains Why Kang the Conqueror Is the Perfect Nemesis for Ant-Man
Our next Marvel movie is Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and from what director Peyton Reed has said about it, this movie is going to up the ante for Ant-Man and his associates as they enter the multiverse and take their movie on the grandest scale of any film since Avengers: Endgame.
Reed recently sat down with Nerdbunker, and explained why pitting the shrinking Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) against the multi-verse traveling Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) is actually more complex than we know, and it all comes back to his relationship with his daughter, Cassie (Kathryn Newton).
"It really occurred to us, obviously, 'Well, Cassie's going to be 18 in this movie, that's great. The whole theme is time and how much time [Scott's] missed, and his main motivation is just, 'I want time with my daughter,' and now he's coming into contact with a villain in this movie, Kang the Conqueror, who has dominion over time, and what does that mean to them?"
In the trailer, we see Kang offer Scott all the time in the world in exchange for his help. This is an intriguing offer, and Scott did miss out on a chunk of time with Cassie due to the blip, so it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
Reed added:
"I think audiences really relate to Scott Lang because he doesn't have superpowers, he's not a super-scientist, he's not a billionaire. He's a regular person who just happens to get caught up in these adventures."
I agree. I love Scott Lang’s relatability, and I can’t wait to see how he fairs in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania when it hits theaters on February 17, 2023.
